INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — IndyCar driver Ed Carpenter is leaving Sarah Fisher Racing to start his own team.
The announcement, made Wednesday, comes less than a month after Carpenter won his first career race at Kentucky. Carpenter is the stepson of former Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Tony George.
With Fisher, Carpenter has been running a part-time schedule. The new team, Carpenter says, will run full time in 2012 and already has a primary sponsor — Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka. The company is owned by former Masters and U.S. Open champion Fuzzy Zoeller.
Carpenter has 113 career starts in nine IndyCar seasons. He has 26 top-10 finishes and been to the podium three times.
