Letter: Residents rely on bus service

In response to Christopher Bice’s Oct. 27 letter, “Defeat C-Tran ballot proposal,” I would point out that at any given moment, hundreds of miles of Clark County sidewalks are devoid of walkers; thousands of library books are sitting idly on shelves; playgrounds sit empty and quiet; no bicyclists travel in a bike lane. Based upon his reasoning would all of these be abolished as well?

Good bus service adds to the quality of life in our community. It’s an essential transportation option. I’m sorry it bothers Bice that we C-Tran users seem to be living it up in luxurious buses (maybe Bice thinks we express bus commuters are served lattes on the morning trip and margaritas on the evening commute; yes, it’s the good life). Apparently he would prefer that we ride on flatbed trucks. It works in Third World countries.

Does he never foresee a situation in which he will need the bus? Life is full of little surprises. Lots of hard-working Vancouverites like me use C-Tran. Try it. Dispel prejudices. Support one of the many elements of our community that make it such a great place to live.
