STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Senior Tiffany Hayes scored 18 points and freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 17 to lead No. 4 Connecticut to an 89-30 victory over Assumption College in a preseason game Thursday night.
Hayes scored 15 points in the first half and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 14 on 4-for-7 shooting on 3-pointers to help the Huskies build a 56-19 halftime lead. Mosqueda-Lewis, the consensus national high school player of the year last season, was celebrating her 18th birthday and started in place of junior point guard Caroline Doty (sprained ankle).
UConn had five players in double-figures. Mosqueda-Lewis played 21 minutes, including just 2 in the second half, and finished 6 for 10 from the field — 5 for 9 on 3s — with four steals and three assists.
Gabrielle Gibson scored 10 points to lead Division II Assumption, which led 3-2 and 5-4 before the Huskies took control.
