Lamar rallies to beat Arkansas State 65-62

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Anthony Miles’ layup with seven seconds remaining gave Lamar the lead, and it added a free throw following a steal for a 65-62 victory against Arkansas State on Friday night.

Brandon Davis had 17 points and Miles 15 for the Cardinals (1-0).

After Miles’ layup, Davis stole the ball from Arkansas State’s Brandon Peterson, was fouled and made the second free throw.

Marcus Hooten scored 15 points and Peterson 14 for the Red Wolves (0-1), who could not get off a shot after Davis’ free throw.

Devon Lamb had 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Charlie Harper added 10 points for Lamar. Harper scored three straight baskets as the Cardinals rallied from a 61-54 deficit with 4:23 to play to tie the score at 62.
