SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Texas State’s balanced scoring attack and first-half scoring surge in which the Bobcats led 58-17 at half ensured a route of Howard Payne 96-55 Monday night.
Texas State (2-0) had four players score in double-figures and all but one player who suited up for the game scored a basket.
Texas State built a 41-point halftime lead on 50 percent shooting, including 5-12 from the 3-point line. The Bobcats endured a letdown in the second half as Howard Payne (0-1) matched their point total at 38 and shot 10 percentage points better, but the lead proved to be too much to overcome.
The Bobcats were led in scoring by Brooks Ybarra with 12 points, including 3-5 from long range. Travis Jones and Dante Bachus each chipped in with 11 points for Texas State.
Howard Payne guard Brandon Irwin led all scorers with 19 points.
