Belmont thrashes Towson 87-41

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Drew Hanlen scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds as Belmont took down Towson 87-41 on Saturday.

Kerron Johnson recorded 10 points and J.J. Mann added 13 for Belmont.

The Bruins played exceptional defense, tallying 16 steals and forcing 23 turnovers. Belmont held Towson to 26.3 percent shooting from the field (15 of 57) and didn’t allow any Tigers player to score above nine points.

Belmont only turned the ball over twice and shot 45.6 percent (31 of 68) from the field as 12 different Bruins scored.

Towson (0-3) outrebounded Belmont 51-41, but struggled to move the ball, recording only six total assists.

Robert Nwankwo led the way for Towson, scoring eight points and tallying 10 rebounds.

Belmont (1-2) shot well from 3-point range, making 40.6 percent (13 of 32) of its attempts compared to just 15.4 percent (2 of 13) for Towson.
