GOLD BAR, Wash. (AP) — Most of the 17 people arrested at a home in the Gold Bar, Wash.-area in a cockfighting investigation appeared Monday in Everett District Court. They were arrested for investigation of animal fighting.
The Daily Herald reports that at least half of those arrested were being held in the Snohomish County Jail for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Court documents indicate the more than 50 roosters seized Sunday were euthanized.
The documents show the investigation began in early September when an informant told police that rooster fighting was occurring in multiple locations around Snohomish County.
The arrests by the Sky Valley Enforcement Team coincided with an apparent cockfighting event planned for Sunday afternoon at the site. The enforcement team is made up of officers from Monroe and the Snohomish County sheriff’s office.
