PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Police Chief Mike Reese says he’s decided against a run for mayor.

In a statement Monday, Reese said he feels he can best serve the community and the Police Bureau by remaining as chief of police. He also said he appreciates the support and encouragement he’s received recently as he mulled a possible race for mayor.

Mayor Sam Adams announced in late July that he wouldn’t seek re-election in 2012.
