RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada running back Mike Ball has been kicked off the team.

Coach Chris Ault said in a statement Tuesday that the Wolf Pack’s leading rusher violated team rules and protocol so there was no choice but to dismiss him. Ault declined to provide any details.

Ball had rushed for 704 yards and three touchdowns while starting five of nine games this season. The junior from Las Vegas is Nevada’s leading kick returner with 1,695 yards on 70 returns.

Ball ran for a career-best five touchdowns in Nevada’s 63-28 win over rival UNLV as a freshman in 2009.

His best game this year was 198 yards against Fresno State.
