Texas A&M-CC fends off Utah State 58-55 in OT

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Terence Jones made three free throws in the final 17 seconds of overtime and finished with 14 points to help boost Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 58-55 victory over Utah State on Tuesday night.

The Islanders (1-2) trailed 47-45 with five seconds left in regulation when Myron Dempsey made a layup to send it into overtime. From there, the teams mostly traded free throws for the extra minutes until Hameed Ali sank a 3-pointer to put the Islanders ahead for good 55-53 with 1:06 left.

Jones’ went on to make 3 of 4 free-throw tries to keep the Islanders in front.

Dempsey racked up a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Morgan Grim led the Aggies (2-2) with 12 rebounds and a game-high 20 points while Brockeith Pane added 15 points and Kyisean Reed pulled down 10 rebounds.
