COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) — Coos County is the surprise beneficiary after the federal government closed a small campsite in a neighboring county.

The Coos County parks department will scoop up more than $40,000 worth of facilities from the Bear Creek campground. The Bureau of Land Management is closing the small, sparsely used camp in Douglas County because of the agency’s diminishing budget. Coos County will take on the campground’s concrete vault restroom, about 10 concrete picnic tables and a 90-foot bridge.

The World newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/v3Hn1U ) the county will spend about $11,000 to transport the facilities six miles to the Sandy Creek Covered Bridge Park. But officials say the price tag is much lower than the value of the equipment.

BLM will keep Bear Creek open for fishing after the campground closes Nov. 30.
