Dates announced for sports show
PORTLAND — The 37th annual Pacific Northwest Sportsmen’s Show will be Feb. 8-12 at the Portland Expo Center, 2060 N. Marine Drive,
The five-day event features hundreds of displays by hunting, fishing and outdoor retailers, manufacturers, guides, outfitters and others. The show also has a variety of hunting and fishing seminars, a youth trout-fishing pond, camp cooking demonstrations and dozens of boats on display.
Show hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb.8-10, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 12.
Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for juniors ages 6 to16. A $1 fee is charged per credit card transaction. Parking at the Expo Center is $8 per space. Carpools of three or more pay $7. Off-site parking at Portland International Raceway or Portland Meadows will be $6 with a free shuttle bus to the Expo Center.
Master Hunter advisers sought
OLYMPIA — An opening to represent Southwest Washington is available on the state’s Master Hunter Advisory Group.
Four positions are open on the 15-member volunteer group, which advises the Department of Fish and Wildlife on issues affecting the Master Hunter program and 2,000 master hunters statewide.
Letters of interest in the position will be accepted through Dec. 18. A statewide at-large position also is open.
Applicants must be certified master hunters, who have completed special training to make themselves eligible to assist the department in address specific wildlife-management issues.

Advisory group members serve three-year terms.
Avalanche forecasts offered
Daily avalanche forecasting for the 2011-12 winter has begun by the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center.
The center produces daily mountain weather and avalanche forecasts for the Olympics and the Cascades from Mount Baker to Mount Hood. Backcountry winter travelers often use the forecasts to gauge the safety of planned activities.
The forecasts are available online a www.nwac.us.
