Tied at half, Robert Morris beats La Salle 51-44

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Velton Jones scored 14 points to lead Robert Morris to a 51-44 victory Friday over La Salle in the Philly Hoop Group Classic at the Palestra.

Jones, the Colonials’ leading scorer coming into the game, was 4 for 15 from the floor for Robert Morris (4-1). Russell Johnson added 12 as La Salle, after playing Pittsburgh tough in its previous game, fell to 2-3.

Sam Mills was the only Explorer in double figures with 15 points. He hit two 3-point baskets but missed five other attempts. La Salle was 3 of 22 from beyond the arc, 1 of 10 after halftime.

Robert Morris outrebounded La Salle 45-30, including a 15-7 edge on the offensive glass. The Colonials hit 23 of 34 foul shots to just 11 of 18 for La Salle.

Earl Pettis, who had scored 22 points against Pitt, shot 1 for 11, 0 for 6 from 3-point range.
