Brooks leads Youngstown State over Detroit 64-61

DETROIT (AP) — DuShawn Brooks scored 24 points and made two key 3-pointers in the final 1:55 to lead Youngstown State to a 64-61 victory against Detroit on Thursday night.

Brooks’ first shot behind the arc put the Penguins (5-1, 1-0 Horizon League) down by one point. With 1:05 to play, he hit another 3-pointer to give them a 61-59 lead, and Kendrick Perry protected the cushion with three free throws in the last 17 seconds.

Brooks had six 3-pointers on the night. Perry scored 13 points for Youngstown State, which broke a five-game losing streak against the Titans and is off to its best start since the 2000-01 season.

Chase Simon and Ray McCollum scored 21 points apiece for Detroit (3-5, 0-1). McCallum had 10 rebounds.
