U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, is exactly true to her word as Dave Langdon’s Sept. 25 letter, “Herrera Beutler true to her word,” has suggested. She has shown us that she is first and foremost a Republican and only secondly a representative of ours to Congress. Chris Edmonson’s Oct. 3 letter, “Record fails to include constituency,” adds what many of us have been distressed about. She has truly failed us.
She has furthered the Republican agenda rather than represent her constituents. She has too few public meetings so that people like me and Edmonson can actually ask her questions, such as “Why would you vote to end Medicare?” or “Why would you vote to never raise taxes for millionaires?” and “What evidence do you have that shows insurance companies will treat any of us fairly as we age, when they have never done so in the past?” I’m fairly certain that most of her constituents would like to know the answers, but of course, Herrera Beutler will, as usual, not answer. And trying to tell us that she “wants to improve” Medicare by abolishing it is an extraordinary use of the word “improve.” “Abolish” and “improve” are not synonymous.
