KELSO, Wash. (AP) — The Longshore union attempt to oust Cowlitz County Sheriff Mark Nelson failed Friday when Superior Court Judge Stephen Warning dismissed the union-sponsored recall petition.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union accused the sheriff of using excessive force to control demonstrators at the EGT grain terminal at the Port of Longview.

The Daily News reports the judge said none of the charges raised by the union met legal requirements for a recall election.

Union officials are deciding if they will appeal the decision
