Championships usually don’t come easy.

But there nothing was difficult — or surprising — on Friday as the Camas Papermakers clinched their second consecutive Class 3A Greater League championship by beating the Fort Vancouver Trappers.

Camas scored four touchdowns in the first quarter at Doc Harris Stadium and led by 51 points at halftime.

As league champion, Camas (7-1, 5-0) will be back at home in two weeks to take on the No. 7 seed out of the Metro League in the state preliminary playoff round. The Tacoma News-Tribune projects that Camas’ opponent will be Ingraham of Seattle.

Six players scored touchdowns for the Papermakers, Kicker Roldan Alcobendas kicked three field goals, two of them on first-and-goal situations in the second quarter.

Camas outgained Fort Vancouver 531-106 in total offense, 348-33 in the first half.

Four Camas ball carriers ran for at least 50 yards. Zack Marshall led the way with 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries.

Camas starting quarterback Tony Gennaro completed 8 of 13 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Backup quarterback Reilly Hennessey was 7 for 9 for 108 yards. He was intercepted in the end zone by Fort Vancouver’s Gaquan White in the third quarter, and threw a 27-yard scoring pass to Dylan White on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Fort Vancouver (0-8) has lost 14 consecutive games.

The Trappers enjoyed some success in the fourth quarter, driving 83 yards on 14 plays for their touchdown. Quarterback Jacob Austin scored it on a 5-yard run with just over a minute left.

Robert Bain had 57 of his 60 rushing yards on the scoring drive.
