UNDERWOOD — Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery will have its annual open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 17.

Approximately 50,000 tule fall chinook are expected back to the hatchery along the Columbia River in eastern Skamania County.

The facility is open daily from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the public to view adults leaping the fish ladder and take a closer look at them in the holding ponds.

Spawning is scheduled from Sept. 15 through 30. The best time to watch the crews spawn the fish is in the morning, as the process often ends by 2 p.m.
