EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The University of Oregon has set a goal of building out its campus without expanding energy use.
The Eugene Register-Guard (http://bit.ly/oDWJPj ) reports the goal is no net increase in the amount of power for campus buildings and grounds.
That means new buildings will have to meet higher energy efficiency requirements, at least 35 percent more efficient than required under state building codes.
And the cost of new construction will include helping to pay for efficiency retrofits for older buildings.
