NEW YORK (AP) — World champion Jenny Barringer Simpson will run the Fifth Avenue Mile less than a month after she became the first American woman to win the 1500-meter title since Mary Decker in 1983.
Simpson will again take on Britain’s Hannah England, the silver medalist at worlds. The field for the Sept. 24 race in Manhattan also includes 10,000-meter runner-up Sally Kipyego and the event’s two-time defending champ, Shannon Rowbury of the United States.
American Bernard Lagat, coming off a silver medal in the 5,000 at worlds, headlines the men’s field, still seeking his first Fifth Avenue Mile victory. Morocco’s Amine Laalou returns to defend his title.
