BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol says two people were killed late Friday when a motorist crashed his SUV into another car while erratically passing other vehicles at high speed on the Mount Baker Highway.

KOMO-TV (http://bit.ly/q7YkpC) reports state troopers responded to the scene at about 10:40 p.m. Friday.

An investigation found that a 1999 Ford Escape driven by a 24-year-old Bellingham man was heading west on the two-lane highway at a high rate of speed, erratically passing other cars.

The driver lost control and crossed over the centerline into the eastbound lane, crashing into a 2005 Kia Rio driven by a 20-year-old Deming woman.

The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old Bellingham woman who was a passenger in the Ford Escape was injured.
