Splain’s 2 TDs leads Dayton past Marist 24-10

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Zachary Splain threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns to lead Dayton to a 24-10 win over Marist on Saturday.

After trailing 3-0 in the second quarter, the Flyers (2-1, 1-0 Pioneer Football League) pulled ahead for good following Splain’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Schutz and a 15-yard passing score to Jordan Elmore.

The Red Foxes (1-2, 0-1), who played their third straight game on the road, trimmed Dayton’s lead to 14-10 when Chuckie Looney connected with Kevin Fitzpatrick on a 6-yard touchdown just before halftime. But the Flyers responded with a score in the third on Tayler Harris’ 2-yard run.

Dayton’s Luke Bellman caught six passes for 121 yards. Harris rushed for 54 yards on 14 carries.

Looney completed 20 of 35 passes for 225 yards and two interceptions for Marist. Fitzpatrick had 65 yards receiving on seven catches, while Anthony Calcagni had five catches for 79 yards.
