Letter: Recognize radical groups as a threat

I find the Sept. 12 story “FBI offends Muslims at workshop” somewhat confusing. The story stated that some Muslims refused to participate because of distrust of law enforcement. It also stated that the FBI says it does not profile. Why are these “peace-loving” Muslims offended?

There was little outcry against the Muslim terrorist groups by the Muslim communities in the United States, even after 9/11. Is the distrust of law enforcement due to guilty consciences?

So why does the FBI not profile these very groups? The late Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini condoned or authorized the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Iran and the holding hostage of its staff for a year. Is this not state-sponsored terrorism against the United States? Those who do not believe that radical Islam is a major threat to our country have their heads in the sand.
