Police: Ore. officer wounds man who pointed pistol

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Police in Pendleton say an officer shot a distraught man in a pickup truck who pointed a gun at him.

The man was hit multiple times Monday night and taken to the hospital in Portland.

The East Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/pJ7JrK ) that the officer was responding to a report about an armed man who might be suicidal.

The names were not immediately released. The officer was put on paid leave while an investigation is conducted. Authorities said they didn’t have details about the wounded man’s condition.
