METAIRIE, La. (AP) — As pleased as Will Smith is to be back at practice, he seems happier that he no longer has to worry about the specter of a suspension that has weighed on him for three seasons.

Smith, who returned to practice on Wednesday after completing a two-game suspension, says he’s glad to put it behind him and focus on football.

Smith was among several players who tested positive in 2008 for a diuretic that is banned by the NFL because it can be used to mask steroid use. Their suspensions were delayed by legal maneuvers until this season.

Now Smith, who has been the Saints’ sack leader for four of the past six seasons, is back in uniform in time for New Orleans to host Houston and prolific quarterback Matt Schaub.
