EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Owen Nolan scored a power-play goal and Mike Duco had a short-handed score to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in a preseason game Thursday night.

Jordan Eberle scored for Edmonton, which dropped to 1-2-0 despite sending out a largely veteran squad against a Vancouver team made up mostly of minor-league players.

The Canucks improved to 2-1-0.

The game got off to a rough start with a couple of fights in the first 3 minutes as Edmonton’s Theo Peckham squared off with Aaron Volpatti and the Canucks’ Todd Fedoruk took on Darcy Hordichuk.

The Oilers had a chance to tie it on a power play late in the third period, but Ryan Smyth was unable to bat a hard pass into a wide-open net.
