PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jordan Staal scored twice in the third period to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 in exhibition play on Thursday night.
Matt Cooke and Tyler Kennedy also scored for the Penguins, who got all their goals in the third period after falling behind 1-0.
Staal started the run by putting in a rebound. Cooke, one of the game’s most notorious hitters, showed soft hands with a deflection of a backhand from Craig Adams to give the Penguins (2-0) the lead.
Michael Frolik scored in the second period for the Blackhawks (0-2).
Chicago starting goaltender Alexander Salak stopped all eight shots he faced before giving way to veteran Ray Emery, who allowed four goals on 19 shots.
