PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Bonneville Power Administration plans to build a new high-voltage power line between Washington and Oregon to move energy from east of the Cascade Mountains to cities west.
The line will run 28 miles from an existing substation near The Dalles, Ore. to a new substation four miles northwest of Goldendale, Wash.
BPA said Friday that the project will cost $185 million and will be financed in part from federal stimulus dollars. The project is expected to create up to 100 construction jobs.
Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden says the upgrade will strengthen BPA’s ability to handle additional expansion of wind energy and other renewable energy projects in the region.
