FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Muhammad Wilkerson faced all kinds of pressure when the New York Jets selected him in the first round of the NFL draft in April.
He was a guy from Temple, not a traditional powerhouse as far as producing NFL stars, who was being counted on to be an immediate contributor to the Jets’ defensive line as coach Rex Ryan anointed him a starter early in training camp.
Well, he’s two games into his career and Wilkerson is earning rave reviews from his teammates and coaches. He got his first NFL sack and safety all on the same play, when he took down Jacksonville’s Luke McCown last Sunday.
Teammate Mike DeVito says this is just the start for Wilkerson, who he believes will eventually be an All-Pro player.
