COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina President Harris Pastides would like to see the Southeastern Conference cap expansion at 14 teams within the next year or two once Texas A&M joins the league.
Pastides sat down with The Associated Press this week to discuss SEC expansion and his role as one of the 50 presidents and chancellors who were invited to the NCAA to discuss the future of major college athletics.
It was at that NCAA session in August when Pastides received a text from Florida President Bernie Machen regarding Texas A&M’s interest in the league. SEC presidents have voted to accept the Aggies as the 13th member of the SEC.
Pastides says he doesn’t think 13 “is a sustainable number,” but he’s not in favor of the SEC expanding to 16 teams.
