OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The late Bobby Murcer was honored Friday as a college in his hometown named its new indoor practice facility after the All-Star outfielder and former New York Yankees broadcaster.

Murcer didn’t attend Oklahoma Christian but he went to church just around the bend from where the facility was built. He also was an adviser in restarting the NAIA school’s dormant baseball program.

Murcer was a five-time All-Star and a three-time Emmy winner as a broadcaster. He died of brain cancer in 2008.

The lobby of the new facility features memorabilia from Murcer’s career, including a cap, glove, bat and his No. 1 Yankees jersey.
