SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon budget officials say state financial tracking systems are not designed to quantify how much state money is paid out to private contractors.
Ken Rocco of the Legislative Fiscal Office tells the Statesman Journal (http://bit.ly/r1OVHn) by e-mail that what is bought by contract compared to other purchasing mechanisms is not broken down into specific detail.
Rocco says he did not want to estimate spending for contracts but would not be surprised if the amount exceeded $100 million.
Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney says legislative oversight of contracts has been lacking.
He says he will push for more scrutiny.
