Baseball bat demonstrations — Extra Innings at 16303 Northeast 15th St., Suite C in Vancouvder, is hosting a Saturday opportunity for high school baseball to try the new baseball bats that will be required by the NCAA for college baseball starting in the spring. Representatives of six bat manufacturers will be on hand. Breakaway Social Sports — Registration is open for the fall season of Breakaway Social Sports in Vancouver. Leagues are for ages 18 and older. LITTLE LEAGUE

Little League’s main season runs March-July, including All-Star play. Some leagues offer fall ball programs. Little League is an all-volunteer program. In Washington, it is organized into 11 districts, two of which serve The Columbian’s readership area. Registration for the main spring-summer season is held in January and February. Boundary maps for the leagues in those districts are available on the district Web sites (listed below).

Here is some basic Little League information:

— Most leagues offer baseball and softball. Baseball for players ages 5-18 are based on the player’s age on April 30, 2011. Softball for girls ages 5-18 are based on player’s age on Dec. 31, 2010.

— Practices began in March and the Little League season runs through mid-June, followed by all-star competition.

— Little League is run by volunteers.

— Challenger Division. Battle Ground/Highlands, Columbia, and LaCamas are leagues that offer a Challenger Division for disabled players ages 20 and younger who live in southwest Washington.

Drive to the light just before you go under the 1-205 bridge. Turn left at this light and park on the side of this service road. Restrooms available inside Home Depot. Saturday, Oct. 8, 9:30 a.m. — David Douglas 4.6-mile Run. This is an out-and-back that connects the trails in David Douglas Park with the Burnt Bridge Creek Trail east of Andresen Road. Restrooms available. Directions: Go west from 1-205 on Mill Plain Blvd., then turn north on Garrison Road (the light next to Garrison Square). Go left at the entrance north of the ballfield and proceed to the farthest west parking lot.

Saturday, Oct. 15, 9:30 a.m. — Burnt Bridge Creek 3.4-mile Run. This run is on the Burnt Bridge Creek Trail west of Andresen Road. Directions: Go south from SR 500 on Andresen Road. Turn west on 18th Stret. Go left at the stop light at Devine Road (Vancouver tennis center is on the north side of this intersection). Parking for the trailhead is on the east side of Devine Road. More parking available on 18th Street. Restrooms available.

10-K Downhill Dash — 8 a.m. Oct. 9 in Portland. Part of the 40th Portland Marathon weekend, this special race is limited to 250 runners. It is for competitive runners who can cover 10 kilometers in 60 minutes or less. Race starts at 8 a.m. on marathon day, and covers the final 6.2 miles of the marathon course. Girlfriends Half Marathon — Oct. 16 in Vancouver. A women-only run or walk in Vancouver. The event benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure non-profit. At all club-sponsored events, eyeglasses and hearing aids are collected for the local Lions Club, as well as old cellular phones and chargers, which are formatted and reprogrammed to dial 911, for the Wireless Foundation’s “Call To Protect” program. WRESTLING CLUBS

Askeo International Mat Club. Wrestling club for all ages. Located at 5909 N.E. 109th Ave, at the intersection of Fourth Plain and Covington roads. Practices are 8-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Damon McPherson at 360-773-3382.

Peninsula Wrestling Club — Program is 40 years old and offers programs for all ages. Located at 700 N. Rosa Parks Way in Portland (about 10 minutes south from the Interstate Bridge). Practice hours are: 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wendesdays, and Fridays, and 8-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fall program is beginning in September. Southwest Washington Wrestling Club — Wrestling club for all ages. Practice has begun for the 2009-10 season.
