LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California man who spent six days in a remote ravine was undergoing surgery, while questions lingered about the dead man fortuitously found after their wrecked cars ended up nearly on top of each other.
Son-in-law Jesse Hooker, one of the six family members who found 67-year-old David Lavau north of Los Angeles, said Lavau was “doing good” as he awaited surgery Saturday. Lavau has several fractures but is expected to make a full recovery.
Lavau’s car came to rest next to the car of 88-year-old Melvin Gelfand. Family members and authorities say they are nearly certain the body found inside is Gelfand, who had been missing since Sept. 14. But no one could say why he was in the forest some 60 miles from where they expected.
