An rare software related problem triggered an outage of Internet access to some 1,800 Frontier Communications customers in Camas and Washougal that began Wednesday evening and extended into mid-day Thursday, according to Ross Waggoner, the utility’s general manager.

Internet service has been restored to all Frontier customers, Waggoner said. The outage affected about half of the utility’s Washougal and Camas customers with Internet services, primarily residences and small businesses, he said.

The problem emerged in software used in some of Frontier’s newest switches and routers, Waggoner said. Technicians from the utility and equipment manufacturers worked around the clock to pinpoint the problem, he said. “It was very difficult for them to trouble-shoot because they hadn’t seen it before,” he said.
