PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A law firm representing the owner of a vacant Philadelphia warehouse hit by a massive fire that claimed the lives of two firefighters in a collapse at an adjacent building calls the deaths “an unspeakable tragedy.”
New York-based law firm Herrick, Feinstein represents owner York Street Property Development. Attorney David Feuerstein says “condolences and heartfelt prayers” go out to the families of 60-year-old Lt. Robert Neary and 25-year-old firefighter Daniel Sweeney.
The firefighters went Monday into a furniture store where the flames had spread and were killed when a wall and roof collapsed.
City officials say the warehouse had been cited for violations several times and court action was in the offing. Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison says officials will talk to the district attorney about whether a criminal negligence prosecution is warranted.
