SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Authorities in Salem say remains they believe are those of a newborn have been found at a Salem home, and they’re trying to identify the infant or locate the mother.

The Marion County sheriff’s office said Thursday the homeowners are cooperating with detectives. The remains have been sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

The sheriff’s office said detectives are asking for public help and are, a statement says, “specifically interested in learning about anyone who was recently pregnant and is no longer.”
