SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Gov. John Kitzhaber has selected Mark McMullen to be Oregon’s new state economist.

The governor’s office announced the move on Tuesday. McMullen has been the interim state economist since Tom Potiowsky left last September to return to Portland State University, where he chairs the economics department.

Oregon’s state economist is responsible for economic forecasting and revenue projections, which lawmakers use to plan budgets.

McMullen has previously been director of consulting at Moody’s Analytics and was a researcher for the Congressional Budget Office and the Center for International Comparisons.
