DETROIT (AP) — Detroit reliever Phil Coke is speaking out against bullying.
A day after appearing before a task force in Detroit, Coke recalled Tuesday some of his experiences growing up, saying kids used to make fun of his last name. He also discussed occasional physical bullying he had to deal with. Coke said light is being shed on the issue, “and for a good reason.”
Monday was the start of a two-day hearing at Detroit’s Wayne State University for the National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence.
Coke says even the kids doing the bullying might need help, and may be reacting in part to a difficult home life.
