FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have selected Arkansas State linebacker Demario Davis with their third-round draft pick, giving Rex Ryan’s defense another aggressive tackler.

Davis, listed at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, is an athletic and physical linebacker who played on the outside at Arkansas State but could move inside because of his somewhat small stature to back up Bart Scott and David Harris. He had 230 tackles and seven sacks in four seasons with the Red Wolves, and used his terrific speed to defend tight ends and running backs.

The Jets took North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples with the 16th overall pick Thursday night, and traded up four spots in the second round earlier Friday night to take Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill.
