Hyo-Joo Kim advances in US Women’s Amateur

CLEVELAND (AP) — Qualifying medalist Hyo-Joo Kim advanced to the second round of match play in the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Wednesday, routing Megan Khang of Rockland, Mass., 7 and 6.

The 17-year-old Kim, from South Korea, will face University of Florida player Isabelle Lendl on Thursday at The Country Club. Lendl, the daughter of former tennis star Ivan Lendl, beat Australia’s Whitney Hillier 2 and 1.

In the lower-bracket, 15-year-old Lydia Ko of New Zealand, second in stroke-play qualifying, topped Amy Beth Simanton of Lake Oswego, Ore., 4 and 3.
