HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — USA Gymnastics says it will hold its 2013 national championships in Hartford, the second time the city has been picked to host the event in three years.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and USA Gymnastics president Steve Penny scheduled a news conference for Tuesday morning at the city’s sports arena, the XL Center, to discuss the details.
The 2010 championships drew more than 40,000 people to the city over four days. The men’s and women’s championships were held at the 15,000-seat XL Center, while the rhythmic, acrobatic and trampoline and tumbling competition took place at the 3,500-seat Chase Arena at the University of Hartford.
Organizers say next summer’s competition, scheduled to take place Aug. 14-17, will include events at the XL Center and the Connecticut Convention Center.
