Newcomers open charity checkbook for Open House

Esther Short — The Clark County Newcomers Club, a social group that supports local charities, made a donation of $6,757.63 to Open House Ministries on Aug. 7. Open House is a faith-based nonprofit that provides shelter and services to homeless families at its downtown Vancouver location. The donation was made at the Newcomers Club monthly meeting and represents the fundraising efforts of the club for the 2011-12 year, when Phyllis Pankow was club president.
