JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State football coach Gus Malzahn said player Tres Houston has been suspended from the team for the 2012 season for violating team policy.

Malzahn didn’t indicate Friday what team rule Houston had violated. An athletic department spokesman didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment about the suspension.

Malzahn said officials have very high standards for players and they’re to represent the team and university in a positive way. Malzahn said it’s his hope that Houston will learn from this experience and take the time to grow as a person.

The 6-foot-3, 183-pound Houston played at Northeast Mississippi Community College before signing with Arkansas State.
