I take issue with the opinion expressed in an Aug. 27 letter, “Show respect for campaign signs,” by the local Democratic and Republican parties’ chairwomen, Kathy Lawrence and Stephanie McClintock, that political signs are “an important part” of a campaign. They do not educate voters nor do they contribute beauty to the landscape. They tend to dumb down the electorate by emphasizing name recognition, rather than expressing candidates positions on issues.
I have no quarrel with placing a sign in your own yard, but who gave candidates the right to litter public property?
