RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have waived tight end Kellen Winslow, keeping true to past form of tinkering with their roster even after final training camp cuts are made.
A team spokesman confirmed Winslow’s release on Saturday, which was first reported by ESPN.com.
Winslow didn’t have much impact during preseason games, but was thought to be a key element of Seattle’s offense. The Seahawks thought they could create mismatches using Winslow and fellow tight end Zach Miller lined up against slower linebackers or smaller safeties.
Those plans obviously changed, although the exact reason for Winslow’s release was unclear.
Winslow was acquired in a trade with Tampa Bay in May after he said it became clear he didn’t fit into the plans of new Bucs coach Greg Schiano.
