Mount St. Mary’s escapes UMBC 58-55

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Kristijan Krajina scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half and Mount St. Mary’s snapped a three-game losing streak, beating Maryland-Baltimore County 58-55 Saturday in a nonconference game.

Rashad Whack had 11 points and a game-high four steals for Mount St. Mary’s (4-6), which forced 19 turnovers and handed UMBC its sixth-straight loss.

UMBC (2-10) shot 50 percent (10 of 20) in the first half and but trailed 26-25 at intermission. Mount St. Mary’s, which made just 5 of 15 first-half 3-point attempts, shot 34.5 percent (10 of 29) in the frame.

Mount St. Mary’s led for all but 34 seconds of the second half until two Brett Roseboro free throws tied it at 53-all with 1:35 remaining. But the Mountaineers made five free throws in the final minute while UMBC managed just one field goal.

Roseboro paced UMBC with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
