PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A dozen Portland police instructors were prepared to testify in a case filed against the city that an officer who shot an unarmed man in the back was following his training.

The $1.2 million settlement of the lawsuit brought by the family of Aaron Campbell means the officers won’t testify at a federal court trial scheduled this week.

Officer Ronald Frashour shot Campbell in 2010. Chief Michael Reese fired Frashour for violating police policy.

The Oregonian reports ( http://bit.ly/Ahhv0C ) that court documents show one trainer was to testify that any officer would have acted as Frashour did.

The trainers are current or former members of the union challenging Frashour’s firing.
