LIEVIN, France (AP) — Lerone Clarke of Jamaica held off French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre to win the 60 meters at the Lievin meet Tuesday.
Clarke finished with a world-leading 6.50 seconds, shaving 0.02 off the time he set last weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Lemaitre, the European sprint champion, had a typical slow start and finished in 6.57. Jamaica’s Mickael Frater was third in 6.62.
Yelena Isinbayeva won the pole vault in 15 feet, 914 inches and was followed by Cuba’s Yarisley Silva (15-512). The Russian missed three times at 16-114, which would have been a world record. Jenny Suhr holds the mark at 16-0.
In the women’s 800, Morocco’s Malika Akkaoui won in 1:59.01, beating Olympic champion Pamela Jelimo of Kenya at the tape.
