I believe those who would oppose light rail in Clark County have completely missed the point of including light rail in the new bridge project. Light rail is not being included to benefit those of us that cross the bridge today, tomorrow or 10 years from now.
It is and should be included to benefit the road warriors of the future, who would be more inclined to use the service as gas prices and gridlock continue to soar. Not only should it be included in the initial iteration of the project but it should be expanded, perhaps as far north as Woodland, and to the east side — think Camas-Washougal via the state Route 500 corridor and Highway 14.
Think big, people.
Those who are critical of light rail today are only being selfish and self-centered. Consider the future users of this timesaving and economically viable mode of transportation, your children and grandchildren. It is certainly cheaper to build it today than it will be somewhere down the road. And the users in the future will thank us all for our forward thinking.
